Overview

Berkley Academy was established in September 2008, by a group of American Certified Educators led by Dr. Maria Onyia, with the mission of providing an international standard, student-centered, small learning community for students. Berkley opened with three students and fifteen staff at 36, Salaudeen Akano Street, Ogudu GRA, Lagos. The Berkley Inquiry Curriculum incorporates the Nigerian and International Elementary standards, as well as Berkley Life Skills, to equip children for global leadership. Our Science Magnet program uses instructional strategies that focus on higher level questioning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Our students investigate and discover in the process of learning, and are able to apply learned skills in real life situations. Moreover, we teach ethics, morals and citizenship. The result is a total child, prepared to become a life-long independent learner, a pacesetter in the global arena, an entrepreneur, and a successful individual. Watch your child transform positively beyond your imagination. At Berkley, we are certified to work with gifted students, those performing at grade level, and struggling students. Therefore, we envision great expectations, enhance positive contributions, build on students' strengths, and provide students with choices while guiding them towards beneficial decisions. We have strong bonds with our students and their families, and we ensure full citizenship. Though we teach all students, we truly teach one child at a time by identifying and meeting the peculiar need(s) of the child, using differentiated instruction during general classes, and at one-on-one meetings.
