MCS International High was borne out of Mothercare School, founded in 1965 by Mrs. Theodora Acquah-Asare. Mothercare School was established under the Registration of Business Names Act, 1962 (No. 151) as a Sole Proprietorship in 1986. As a private, educational establishment, Mothercare School was set up in 1965 as a nursery school. The Primary Department was added in 1992 and in 2000 the Junior Secondary School became operational. Mothercare School moved from Burma Camp to Teshie (Military Academy). Then to Roman Ridge, East Cantonments (Kakramadu Road) and finally to its present location of Giffard Close, East Cantonments. The school lies on an acreage of 2.41, 50 years leasehold land. Due to the persistent interest of some parents in the British Cambridge curriculum, the successor to the founder, Ms. Sheila Acquah Asare, deemed it fit to begin a department for the British curriculum in the school. This program was started in 2009 and presented its first student for the international examination in 2013. In 2015, this new department offering the British Cambridge curriculum, IGCSE, is targeted to be separated from the Mothercare School premise to a different building and renamed MCS International High School.
