2027 National Examination Timetable Proposal: JAMB, NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS Dates

2027 National Examination Timetable Proposal: JAMB, NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS Dates

A proposed 2027 National Examination Timetable has emerged following discussions involving the Federal Government, major examination bodies and representatives of private schools, giving students, parents and schools an early indication of how the 2027 examination calendar could be structured.

The proposed harmonised schedule covers major examinations including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), NABTEB and NBAIS.

However, candidates and schools should note that the dates are proposed dates and remain subject to confirmation by the respective examination bodies. Registration dates have also not yet been announced as part of the proposal.

Proposed 2027 National Examination Calendar

ExaminationProposed 2027 Examination PeriodProposed Result Period
JAMB UTMEMarch 15 – March 25, 2027March 2027
NECO SSCEApril 1 – May 14, 2027August 2027
WAEC WASSCEMay 11 – June 18, 2027August 2027
NABTEBJune – July 2027To be communicated
NBAISJune – July 2027To be communicated

According to the reported proposal, the timetable would place NECO SSCE ahead of WAEC WASSCE, with the two examination periods overlapping from May 11 to May 14.

JAMB UTME Proposed for March 2027

The proposed calendar places the 2027 JAMB UTME between March 15 and March 25, 2027, with results proposed for release within March.

JAMB has separately made adjustments to the timing arrangements for the 2027 UTME, including moving the expected arrival time for candidates in the first session to 7:30 a.m., with the examination scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

Candidates should therefore continue to rely on official JAMB announcements for their individual examination schedules and registration information.

NECO SSCE Proposed for April to May

Under the proposed harmonised calendar, the 2027 NECO SSCE would run from April 1 to May 14, 2027, with results proposed for August.

If eventually confirmed, this would mean that NECO would begin before the proposed WAEC WASSCE period.

NECO currently publishes its official examination timetables and registration information through its official channels, so candidates should verify the final 2027 schedule there once released.

WAEC WASSCE Proposed for May to June

The proposed timetable places the 2027 WAEC WASSCE from May 11 to June 18, 2027, with results proposed for August.

WAEC has already provided information about subjects and examination arrangements relevant to candidates registering for the 2026 and 2027 WASSCE. For example, WAEC states that candidates registering in 2026 and 2027 will sit English Language and General Mathematics as the two available core subjects under the current arrangement.

The final 2027 WASSCE timetable, however, should be obtained directly from WAEC when officially released.

NABTEB and NBAIS

The proposed national calendar also includes NABTEB and NBAIS examinations, with both placed within the June–July 2027 period.

Specific examination dates and result-release dates for these examinations are yet to be communicated in the proposal.

Schools May Need to Prepare Earlier

The proposed examination calendar is particularly relevant to secondary schools planning their 2026/2027 academic sessions.

If the proposed dates are confirmed, schools will need to carefully coordinate:

  • Mock examinations

  • Revision periods

  • Internal terminal examinations

  • WAEC and NECO registration

  • JAMB preparation

  • Graduation activities

  • Student documentation

  • Examination-centre arrangements

  • Academic calendars and lesson completion

  • Candidate subject combinations

An earlier understanding of the examination window can help schools avoid scheduling important internal activities too close to external examinations.

Proposed Teacher Qualification Requirement for Examination Centres

The discussions surrounding the proposed timetable also included a requirement concerning teachers in schools seeking approval to operate as examination centres.

According to reports on the communiqué, schools seeking approval would be required to have at least 75% of their teachers licensed by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) by December 11, 2026.

Compliance is expected to be verified before eligible schools are listed on the relevant registration platform.

This is consistent with TRCN's ongoing implementation of the Federal Government's policy linking school accreditation for public examinations with teacher certification. TRCN announced in June 2026 that it had commenced implementation of the policy.

Schools intending to serve as examination centres should therefore pay attention to official communications concerning the implementation and verification process.

Important: These Are Proposed Dates

Students, parents and school administrators should not treat the dates in this proposed calendar as the final 2027 examination timetable.

The reported proposal specifically indicates that the dates are subject to confirmation by the respective examination bodies. The official timetables, registration windows, examination venues and other candidate instructions will come from JAMB, NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS through their respective official channels.

This distinction is important because examination dates can change following further coordination, operational considerations or decisions by individual examination bodies.

For example, NECO's official website currently continues to publish its 2026 examination schedules and registration information rather than a final 2027 SSCE timetable.

What Students and Schools Should Do Now

While waiting for the final timetable, candidates can already begin preparing by:

1. Creating a study plan

Students should identify their examination subjects and divide their available preparation time across the syllabus.

2. Reviewing the academic calendar

Schools can compare the proposed external examination windows with their internal academic calendar and identify possible scheduling conflicts.

3. Preparing examination documentation

Schools should ensure that candidate records, subject selections and other required documentation are properly organised before registration opens.

4. Monitoring official announcements

Candidates should avoid relying solely on social media flyers or unofficial examination calendars. The Federal Ministry of Education has previously warned the public about false examination information and advised students and school administrators to verify announcements through official channels.

5. Preparing examination centres early

Schools intending to serve as examination centres should monitor the requirements for accreditation, including the reported TRCN teacher-qualification requirement.

Final Takeaway

The proposed 2027 National Examination Timetable provides an early picture of how Nigeria's major public examinations could be arranged next year.

The proposed sequence is:

JAMB UTME → NECO SSCE → WAEC WASSCE → NABTEB/NBAIS

with JAMB proposed for March, NECO for April–May, WAEC for May–June, and NABTEB/NBAIS for June–July.

However, these dates should be treated as a planning guide rather than a final timetable until they are formally confirmed by the respective examination bodies.

Schexus will continue to monitor official announcements and provide updates as the 2027 examination calendar is confirmed.

For students, parents and schools, the key message is simple: start preparing early, but always verify the final examination dates from the official examination body before making important arrangements.
